İdris-i Bitlisî, known by many names such as Bitlisli İdris and Mevlana İdris, was a multifaceted personality who lived from 1452-1520. He was a respected statesman, a renowned historian, and a gifted literary figure during the reign of the mighty Ottoman Sultan, Yavuz Sultan Selim.

As a statesman, İdris-i Bitlisî played a significant role in the political landscape of the Ottoman Empire. In 1514, he accompanied Sultan Selim on his campaign against the Safavid ruler Shah Ismail. His diplomatic skills were instrumental in securing alliances with several influential tribal leaders in the region.

İdris-i Bitlisî's historical writings provide valuable insights into the events of his time. His magnum opus, "Heşt Behişt" ("Eight Paradises"), is a comprehensive chronicle of the history of the Ottoman Empire from its origins to the reign of Selim I.
